Rebecca Stephens
Singer/Songwriter
My name is Rebecca Stephens, I am from Wasaga Beach Ontario and I was born on August 17th 1989, which makes me eighteen! I have three little brothers and live with both of my parents. They are all very supportive of my music. I can't remember not loving music but I didn’t become a "struggling artist" until the age of ten.
Unlike most artists, I started writing songs before singing. I can remember the first song I ever wrote was inspired by Mariah Carey's "Music Box" album. I followed the exact structure of one of her songs and there it was. I think I named it "I’m sorry I made you cry".
Yes, I know. If there were a true definition for "lame" that song title would be it, but it was a start!
From then on I knew that I loved writing pop songs and I decided that i would be dedicated to improving on my writing skills.
When I was twelve years old, my dad started a karaoke business and when he set up his system for my little brothers and I to play around with I discovered my love for singing.
It was then that I decided that I truly wanted to pursue a career in music. As a result, I started recording with different producers in Ontario and playing as many talent contests as I could.

Rebecca also enrolled into voice lessons and is currently studying for her grade 8 vocal exam with the royal conservatory.
“Nerve wracking? Very. But I'm glad I went through it, it taught me a lot about the technicalities of music which is important to know!”
“I have also met and worked with Alex Andronache ( Metal works studios) Debbie and Ryan Dennis( Ex manager and lead singer of the successful Canadian band "Serial Joe").
As a young, naive artist I learned a lot from them about the business and held on to their advice as I approached high school, when I became the lead singer/songwriter for a band called "Contrast". Over a span of four years, the four guys and I got the chance to open up for some talented Canadian bands such as "Marianas Trench" and "Faber Drive". I grew a lot as a person and as an artist while spending my time with the guys because I was exposed to different genres of music. Thus, their influences helped me to develop my songwriting abilities and focus on being more versatile. After graduation, the band and I decided to part ways and I have chosen to continue on pursuing a career in music as a solo artist.”
Note: “My grandmother, who was diagnosed with ALS two summers ago was a very big influence on me as an artist. She was the one who pushed me to continue on as a solo artist. She passed away last April…”Rebecca Stephens

Rebecca has a sound described as pop/rock with a twist. She writes, sings and plays keyboard.
