CASE STUDY - An example of the production process for a new book

The release of Cajun Moon - A Journey Through Time sets the example for publishing with a strategy that might be considered "guerilla marketing". The author, Kenneth William Cowle, was looking for a fast, inexpensive way to get his first book printed and still leave some money in his own pocket after it was produced. By a chance meeting, Ken formed Soul Asylum Poetry, with the support of Charles Ross, as a business venture that will offer the same friendly and economical production and promotion that Cajun Moon is now experiencing.

	1 - Concepts Poet Kenneth William Cowle realized the completion of his first published book of poems in about 2 months time. Of course he had most of the poems already written. But from the point when actual formatting began it was only a matter of weeks before the first proof was back for review. The lead poem 'Cajun Moon' set the tone for the cover which was designed by Diana K. Nichols.
	2 - Formatting Most of the poems were submitted as individual Word files. The rest were typeset in-house. We then set about pouring the words and illustrations into Quark Xpress, a professional publishing program, for the in-house drafts and after small corrections, conversion to the final files for the press. This book has 126 pages sized at 5.5 x 8.5 with perfect binding (paperback cover). The pages and cover art were adjusted to fit the print specifications for this size of book. Soul Asylum Poetry can take care of every step in pre-press of your publication to smooth out the wrinkles and headaches.

3 - PUBLISHED! The back cover includes several testimonials from Kenneth William Cowle fans, a brief note from the author, credits to the cover designer Diana K. Nichols, and a registered ISBN code.
